The BAFA (Brevet d'Aptitude à la Poste Animateur) is a diploma which allows young people to occasionally lead leisure activities with children in collective reception centers for minors and extra-curricular times.

- ensure the safety of children and young people
- work as a team to implement an educational project
- build a calm and trusting relationship with children and young people
- supervise and animate daily life
- support young people (young and old) in carrying out their projects.

La formation se déroule en trois étapes pour le BAFA :
- Un stage de base (formation générale, 8 jours)
- Un stage pratique en Accueil Collectif de Mineurs ou en séjour de vacances (14 jours minimum)
- Un stage d'approfondissement (6 jours)
La formation se déroule en 4 étapes pour le BAFD :
- Stage de formation générale (9 jours)
- Stage pratique (14 jours effectifs, en France)
- Stage de perfectionnement (6 jours)
- Second stage pratique (14 jours effectifs, en France)
A la fin de la formation, le candidat rédige un bilan de formation qu'il soumet au jury en vue de l'obtention du diplôme.
